If there is anything that I struggle with more about being an adult, it is buying a car. Let's face facts, I don't do well at negotiation (apparently too nice), I'm fairly impatient (willing to settle for something rather than find the perfect thing), and I get grumpy fast.
So with both joy and dismay, after I experienced some hail damage on my Prius (I still love that car) that was bad enough to have it written off (welcome to Southern Alberta everyone), now I'm back in the market for a car. For a long time now I have said that an EV might make sense for me. So after hunt around here's the cars I'm looking at:
- 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV
- 2018 Nissan Leaf
- 2020 Nissan Leaf S Plus
- 2020 Chevrolet Bolt EV
The journey of this is that there are many things to understand when buying an EV:
- What is the state of the battery?
- Have all the needed recalls, especially battery related, been completed?
- What is the history of this car in terms of geographic location?
- Can I really afford this?
Currently I have found cars all over the map:
- Some with pristine batteries but high mileage
- Some with rust
- Some with an accident history
- Some with weird service records (thanks Carfax for the info)
So hopefully after round 2 of reviews tonight, I'll have a better idea of what to buy as I see the final two of contestants...
Part 2 to come...
