Friend 10k - 2025-05-22

Run: 10k around 1 hour, 2 minutes.

After the week of running I've had so far, I admit feeling that this could be a tough one. We meet up just over a kilometre into the 10k, and chug along together. We joke about how tired we both feel. Lack of sleep, hard running, getting old are all topics that permeate the first section of the run.

You can tell that we're both just concentrating on getting to the finish line today by the lack of conversation at times. A points I realize just how I tend to push the pace of this run on my friend. I don't mean to but there is always this subconscious effort to get to my "comfort" of somewhere between 5'35" and 5'55" per k. Each time, I slow myself down and just enjoy the moment.

It's a colder run day for May, temps are between 0 and 2C but we laugh given that we've run in worse. We push on to the lower Library bridge avoiding large puddles for over a kilometre. Crossing the bridge means the last hill is on tap. We don't race up it as we did the week before but it is conquered and we stop for our usual chat.

5 minutes later, we say our goodbyes and run in opposite directions...

Run review: A nice recovery feeling type run. 6'10" per k.
