Parkrun - Run Director 5-24-2025

Run: 5k, in 33 minutes or so.

One of the joys I have in the local running scene is volunteering for the Sheep River Parkrun. It is a wonderful group of people that enjoy running and a wee chat after the run. My job this week was the Run Director and course setup.

I got there about 7:30AM to ensure that I could take my time in setting up the course and then laying out all of the materials for the rest of the volunteers that would be coming. The only challenge in the course this day was several sizable puddles that eclipsed the entire path and runners would have to off-road it around each puddle.

The setup was full of chalk sayings on the path, slow running, and dropping directional cones where needed. The chalk is actually one of the things I like doing but it does slow down the run. After the setup, I got back to the start/finish line only to remember that I didn't take out one of the needed signs. Forutnately a fellow Parkrunner who was doing 5k before the 5k took it out for me.

I setup the start/finish line, got the high vis vests out, and chatted with the rest of the volunteers. While I forgot to mention the course configuration during the briefing, the rest of the briefing was fine. We started right on 9AM and had over 50 participants. By 10:30 we were all packed up and I was taking the equipment to the house of next week's Run Director.

Run review: Love Parkrun, 5'55" per k.
